Mariupol Reborn: rebuilding the city together
The beautiful Ukrainian city of Mariupol is in ruins but the city is already working on plans to revive its fortunes once the fighting stops. Deputy mayor Sergiy Orlov will be at Expo Real to talk about the humanitarian effort and to present Mariupol Reborn, a major programme to revive Mariupol once it is back in Ukrainian hands.
Ukraine’s international partners, European cities and large Ukrainian businesses, together with Mariupol City Council, have joined forces to plan the regeneration of the city after the liberation using best practices and the latest technologies.
The EBRD, the USAID “Economic Support for Ukraine” project, the cities of Utrecht, Vilnius, Gdansk and Lviv, Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov, and an international community of urbanists and architects have already joined Mariupol Reborn. The project is open to new partners who want to help bring Ukrainian Mariupol back to life.
Join this workshop if you want to know more or if you want to help Mariupol.
Programme:
Introduction by Eelco Eerenberg, deputy mayor of Utrecht.
Presentation by Sergiy Orlov, deputy mayor of Mariupol. He will address the current situation in Mariupol and humanitarian aid. Homeless families need dormitories for example. What can partners do to help?
He will also elaborate on Mariupol Reborn, the programme that will help rebuild the city after the war ends. The city needs knowledge and expertise as well as investment to make these plans a reality.
